Red Vest Man is composed for legendary cornet player Buddy Bolden, one of the first jazz musicians. He always played wearing a red vest, hence the title.The piece takes the form of a mournful New Orleans funeral march followed by a lively New Orleans second line style.While a trumpet solo in an improvised style has been written, there are also chord symbols for the trumpet player to improvise their own solo.
