"John O'Neill has a solid understanding of jazz and how it can be taught. I highly recommend
his educational jazz materials"

Jamey Aebersold

The Jazz Method for Trumpet will guide beginners of all ages from producing their first note on the instrument to the performance
of full-blown pieces, including 'classics' by Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard. With step by step
instruction and a progression of specially written tunes and exercises, the fundamental elements of good trumpet technique are
introduced alongside the rhythmic subtleties of jazz. Improvisation is encouraged from an early stage, given direction through the
study of scales and arpeggios and advice on ear-training and chord patterns. Backing for all of the music is provided on the
accompanying CD so that the student can enjoy playing in the company of a top-class rhythm section.

With supplementary suggestions for listening and reading, and an Appendix containing all the chord progressions for 'live'
accompaniments of the tunes, The Jazz Method for Trumpet is ideally suited both to students working alone and those learning
with a teacher. John O'Neill has been a professional freelance musician and instrumental teacher since 1979, and has written
music for dance, theatre, film and television.

As a writer on jazz, John has contributed articles to The Sunday Times and Jazz Journal International and has broadcast on
BBC local radio.
